Ester Dasalla Puntanilla

July 4, 1932 ~ December 15, 2017 (age 85)
Ester Dasalla Puntanilla

July 4, 1932 - Dec 15, 2017

Former resident of San Jose, CA

Ester passed away, into the hands of Our Lord, on December 15 at Washington Hospital in Fremont, CA surrounded by family. She was born in the barrio of Nagsayaoan, town of Santa Maria, in the province of Ilocos Sur, Philippines, the youngest of 6 children of Juan and Julia Dasalla. Her parents were farmers, growing rice, corn, peanuts and sugar cane.

Ester met her husband, Jose (Pepe) Puntanilla while still in high school and they were married in June, 1949. They remained happily married for 38 years until Pepe's death in June, 1987.

Ester was a true serial entrepreneur, spending much of her life starting and running a variety of different businesses, mostly in the town of Santa Maria. Over the years, she owned and/or operated a gas station, funeral home, sound system rental service, restaurant, piggery and poultry farm, ice cream cart, beauty salon and dress making shop. She was also an accomplished seamstress, making many of her daughters' wedding gowns and bridesmaid dresses. After moving to San Jose in 1979, she worked at AMD in Silicon Valley, in a chip fabrication plant.

She attended St Paul UMC in Fremont and was an active member of the Santa Marians Ilocos Sur Association.

Ester enjoyed cooking, gardening and was an avid Golden State Warriors fan later in life. Above all, Ester loved to be with her family, spending hours each day talking to her sister, Marina, on the phone and attending all of the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's myriad events including graduations, weddings, sporting events, concerts and school activities. She loved to cook and bring the family together over meals. She was extremely generous, some would say to a fault, and never ignored those in need, whether they be family or friend.

She is survived by 3 sisters, Librada Cabaltera, Anna Dasalla and Marina Estoesta; 7 children, Victoria Brillantes, Demelza Aquisap, Horatius Puntanilla, Melissa Florendo, Minerva Kalinawan, Ephie Callan and Valentino Puntanilla; 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Jose (Pepe), siblings Sammy Dasalla, Oling Dasalla, Auria Cabunoc, Magnu Dasalla, Leopoldo Dasalla and children Ephriam Puntanilla and Elleo Puntanilla.

Viewing services will be held at Lincoln Glen Church, 2700 Booksin Ave, San Jose CA on Thursday, Dec 28 from 1-8pm and Friday, Dec 29 from 2-8pm. A memorial service will be held at the same location on Saturday, Dec 30 at 9:30 am followed by a procession and burial at her final resting place of Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, (Lima Family Mortuary,) 48800 Warm Springs Boulevard, Fremont CA.

In leiu of flowers, the family would like to request a donation be made to the Ester Puntanilla Nagsayaoan Education Memorial.
Mom cared very much for the children of Nagsayaoan, Santa Maria, PI and sponsored a number of scholarships for children who would otherwise not be able to go to school. As a tribute to her, we will continue this through the memorial fund. Thank you for your contributions!
