Obituary Amelita de Guzman Aranda, age 78, of San Jose, CA passed away on Sept. 4, 2019, with her family and beloved pet by her side. She was born on June 7, 1941, in San Nicolas, Philippines. She is preceded in death by her father, Daniel de Guzman Senior, mother, Esperanza Soriano de Guzman, sister, Felicidad, and brothers, Daniel, Jr. and Berhelio. She is survived by husband, Jose, sons, Raymund and Dean, daughter, Rosalie, and the family dog, Georgie. She is also survived by her sisters Ligaya, Teresita, Virginia, and Brenda. Amelita graduated from the University of the East in 1961 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce. Upon graduating, she secured employment with C.A. Valdez and Company, an auditing firm, where she met her future husband, Jose. They married September 16, 1967. Amelita’s husband Jose immigrated to the United States in 1972, and she followed with the three children on September 2, 1973 to make a new and better life in America. She returned to the workforce part-time in 1976 at Berkey Company, a film processing company, and she saved her earnings to secure a down payment to purchase a home for her family in San Jose in 1979. In San Jose, she worked full-time in administrative roles at Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum and the City of San Jose, where she worked in a variety of governmental services including Utilities, Finance, Risk Management, Police, and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration. The Drug Enforcement Agents were especially proud of the fact that Amelita was able to hit the bullseye at the local firing range! She retired at age 65. In retirement, Amelita engaged in numerous social activities with friends and family including, fundraising events, casino excursions, travel, and daily mall walking frequently followed by leisurely coffee dates. She especially loved going to the casino with her friends. She was thrilled and invigorated by the sounds of slot machines, and viewed winning as a challenge, no matter the amount! She has also traveled to Europe, Canada, and several states including Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, and Florida. Simple things shared with family and friends made Amelita happy. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading novels, crossword puzzles, word finds, walking with her friends, and going to afternoon tea with her daughter Rosalie. She was also an avid Golden State Warriors fan and enjoyed watching basketball games with her husband. She enjoyed babysitting her grandpuppy Georgie throughout the work week, and looked forward to the annual family 4th of July getaways to Carmel-by-the-Sea and the Presidio at San Francisco. Amelita will be remembered for her quiet strength and demeanor, her mischievous humor, joyful laughter, and warm smiles, and her loving presence. Her friends and family will miss her greatly.
