Obituary Joy Lynn Harsch Leap passed away on February 20, 2020, in Gilroy, California. She was 61 years old. A memorial will be held for her family and friends on March 21, 2020 at The River Church in San Jose, California. Joy was born on January 3, 1959. She grew up in Elmont, New York and lived with her brother and parents, near many extended family members. She married the love of her life, Cyrus Leap, in 1984, and they were married for more than 35 years. Together they had one daughter, Cassandra. They lived together in Deer Park, New York until the year 2000, when they moved to Largo, Florida. Joy and Cy moved to California in 2017 to be near their daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Joy was the epitome of her name. She found happiness in just about any situation, and it’s been said many times that she will be remembered most for her infectious laugh. She wore her heart on her sleeve and loved to be around people. She also loved to help others. Even in death, she was an organ donor and continued to sacrifice so that others may live. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She was incredibly involved in their lives and took any chance to be around them. She loved to take them to parks, on picnics, chaperone field trips and volunteer at their school. She was present for their births and even moved across the country to be near them. She loved to dance and would dance as often as possible; out at nightclubs in her 20s to dancing in the kitchen with toddlers as a grandmother. Joy was a thrill-seeker, and was delighted to go skydiving, paragliding and ride roller-coasters. It is often said that her marriage to Cy was inspirational to many. They truly completed one another and provided an incredible example of a strong, dedicated marriage. She was incredibly tough, and fought hard for her health. Joy is missed and loved dearly by her husband Cyrus, her daughter Cassandra, her son-in-law Matthias, and her grandchildren, Coralie Joy (8), Lucas (6) and Andreas (1). She is missed and loved as well by her sister-in-law, Kathy Harsch and her nephews, Steven Harsch and Michael Harsch. She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Donald Harsch and Annette Ewert Harsch, and her brother, Christopher Harsch. She is with them in heaven now, along with her dear cousin and friend, Cheryl Marsh. She is also missed dearly by many extended family members and many, many friends.
