Madeline Velez Torres Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

The Velez-Torres family is heartbroken to announce the death of Madeline Velez-Torres. She passed away on Sunday July 10th 2022 at the age of 59, surrounded by friends and family. Madeline Velez was born in the Bronx on September 13th 1962 to parents Maria Luz Sanchez and Benjamin Velez. She is the eldest of Marilou’s 3 daughters. In her teens our Mother was a true force of nature, with her beauty and strength she was someone who could not be ignored earning her the nickname “Hollywood”. She would later meet Julio Torres Jr. and in 1980 give birth to her first son. In the mid 1980’s Mom and the rest of the family, looking for a better quality of life left New York and headed out west where they would settle in San Jose, California. In 1988 our Mother gave birth to her second son and for the next couple of years would focus her attention on raising her children. By the mid 90’s, our Mom decided to enter the workforce. Her new found purpose was to assist in her families financial stability and to ensure her children always had enough and never went without. Professionally, Mom was driven and goal orientated taking on new roles and responsibilities as she navigated her way through corporate Silicon Valley. By the 2000’s Mom would welcome her first granddaughter while continuing to aspire and grow professionally as well as academically taking courses at the community college. In 2006 she would welcome her second granddaughter and in 2008 her third granddaughter. She would enjoy professional success until unanticipated medical health related issues would eventually force our Mother into an early retirement. Never the less, Mom still had much more to look forward to and in 2018 she welcomed her fourth grandchild and first grandson. Then in 2021, more blessings were bestowed on her as she welcomed her fifth grandchild and second grandson. As we reflect, she was Mom to her two sons, but to others she was the loving daughter, the protective big sister, the tell it like it is, even if you don’t want to hear it Titi (Aunt), the supportive and loving mother-in-law, the person you could call if you needed a place to stay, and the girlfriend you could laugh and cry with. Our Mother was many things to a lot of people, and her ability to be those things when we needed her the most will never be forgotten. She lived life to the fullest, but she never stopped loving her family and friends. We will miss her smile, her laugh and her hugs. We pray her spirit has been received by “La Gente” our ancestors and loved ones that have gone before us and that you have finally found peace Mom. Madeline is survived by her sons Julio and John, her Mother, her sisters Wanda and Nancy, her grandchildren and by many more nieces and nephews.
