Bernadine Arlene (Kalama) Meyer entered eternity April 28, 2021. Bernie was born on March 12, 1939, in Honolulu and grew up in Kailua, Oahu. She moved to Glendale, CA upon graduation from Kamehameha Schools. She then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where she met Walter Meyer on a blind date while he was stationed at Alameda Naval Air Base; they subsequently married. After working for the government and Matson Navigations for many years, she became a successful branch manager for the Alameda, CA location of 1st United Credit Union for over 20 years. Bernie was an avid participant and advocate of the Polynesian community where she joined and supported organizations such as IMUA Athletic Club, Academy of Hawaii Arts, E Hula Mai Me Keali'iluahine and 'O Ka'ahumanu Wahine Ali'i Ahahui. She enjoyed dancing hula, learning to play the 'ukulele and hanging out with the 'aunties'. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Walter; brother, Richard Kalama; four children, Melody, Stacey, Leslie and Barry; 14 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Bernie's final resting place will be in Hawaii. In lieu of flowers or money, please consider a donation to Alzheimer's research.
