Eric Rex McFall Monte Sereno
Eric was born May 27, 1951 to Robert and Grace McFall in Oskaloosa, IA. He was the second child of the McFall family, with his older sister Pam and later, his younger sister Kay. He helped on the family farm to maintain upkeep in his early years during the late 1950’s and early 1960’s when the family had moved to Stronghurst, Il. In his youth he developed a love of the outdoors which led to many years throughout his life spent celebrating that passion in the forms of hunting, fishing, golfing, and later in life riding motorcycles. He was a man of his own making, when drafted into service for the Vietnam war he decided to enlist instead to make sure he had control of his own life and service choices. He chose to serve in the Air Force during the time of the Vietnam conflict. After his service he attended University of Southern Illinois at Carbondale where he graduated and became an electrical engineer. In 1980 while working at Perkin-Elmer in Santa Clara he met his future wife (Karen) on her first day on the job. He worked for several notable computer companies throughout his career, retiring from engineering in 2003. In retirement he built his family home, worked as a handyman which was a skill that came very naturally to him, and helped his neighbors whenever possible. At the age of 50, he decided to learn how to ride a dirt bike and indulged in racing vintage motorcycles. He still would go hunting, fishing, or golfing whenever possible as well. He was an intelligent, helpful, and compassionate man who was celebrated in his neighborhood as being the man with the open garage with the friendly dogs. He was well loved by his family, celebrated by his community, cherished by his friends, and will be remembered fondly by all of them. He passed away from complications as a result of his aggressive cancer.
Eric is survived by his loving wife and partner of 38 years, Karen Brayton-McFall, his mother Grace McFall, children Andrew and Danielle, sisters Pam McFall Fletcher (Thomas Fletcher) their children Kimberly and Benjamin, Kay McFall Smith (Campbell Smith) and their children Garrett and Gillian.
