Obituary

Felix “Eddie” Isla Cariño passed away unexpectedly on November 4, 2021 while enjoying a night out with his wife. He was 64 years old.

Felix is survived by his wife, Nora Cariño (née Santos); his daughter, Diwata Cariño Sito (Jessie); his grandchildren, Brandon, Isabel, and Jeremiah; his sister, Anne Grace Cariño-Marquez; his brother, Francis Cariño; and his sister, Angelyn Cariño-Williams. He is predeceased by his mother Araceli Isla Cariño; his father, Alejandro Nool Cariño; and his grandson, Isaiah Cariño Sito.

Felix was born on March 23, 1957 to Alejandro Nool Cariño and Araceli Isla Cariño in Magaspac, Gerona, Tarlac, Philippines. He attended the Gerona Institute, then transferred to Palm Springs High School when he immigrated to the United States. On January 5, 1977, he married Nora, a midwife and his high school sweetheart. In 1978, he welcomed his daughter, Diwata.

Felix was a United States Air Force (USAF) veteran who ultimately achieved the rank of Technical Sergeant, serving in the military during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His tour of duty included: Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento; Camp Red Cloud in Korea; Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico; Woomera Air Force Base in Australia; Hahn Air Base in Germany; Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana; and Incirlik Air Base in Turkey.

After retiring from the USAF, he explored different career paths. He worked as a sales counselor for Oak Hill Memorial Park for two years. He then found a second career working for United Airlines, earning a second retirement.

Felix was a devoted father, grandfather, and uncle. He enjoyed traveling to different cities and countries with his family, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, playing the bongo drums, and gardening. He was an avid storyteller, proud of his hometown - who passed down tales of his time living in the Philippines and ensured that his family would hold a deep appreciation for its culture. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
