José Plácido Vidal passed away unexpectedly at Stanford University Hospital in Palo Alto, California on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 due to heart complications after lung cancer surgery at the age of 63.
José is predeceased by his parents, Hermano e Norbina da Ponte Plácido Vidal originally from São Miguel, Azores and his sister Rosa Vidal Botelho.
José is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Maria Conceição Vidal. They were married in Candelária, São Miguel, Azores on January 20, 1976.
José is lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Norbina Duran of Wisconsin, Nancy Vidal of San Jose, Nélia Liera of Arizona and eight grandchildren: Reanna Huerta, Santiago Gomez, Valerie Liera, Izaak Duran, Aiden Duran, Izabelle Duran, Jayla-Marie Armiger and, Kristian Liera. He is also survived by six siblings: his sister Maria Vidal Medeiros and husband José Augusto Medeiros in Toronto, his brother João Vidal and wife Tess Vidal in Toronto, his sister Maria Vidal Soares and husband José Soares in San José, his sister Eduarda Vidal Raposo and husband Abel Raposo in Merced, his brother Manuel Vidal and his wife Maria Vidal in San José and his sister Lúcia Vidal Gonzalez and husband Francisco Gonzalez in Fremont.
José Plácido Vidal was born on August 1, 1957 in Terceira, Azores and came to California with his parents and younger siblings in 1976, making California his home. He enjoyed working with his hands building cabinets and restoring homes. He loved to tell stories and jokes that made everyone laugh. He tended to his garden delivering the harvest to friends and cared for his animals. He took joy in playing music. He was a hard-working man, husband, father and friend, loved by many and now missed by all.
A Viewing and Prayer Service will be held at the Alameda Family Funeral Home, 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd, Saratoga on October 1, 2020 from 4-8pm.
The Memorial Mass will be held at Five Wounds Portuguese National Church, 1375 E. Santa Clara Street, San Jose on October 2, 2020 at 10am, officiated by Fr. António Silveira, Pastor. The burial service will be held after Mass at Cedar Lawn Cemetery, 48800 Warm Springs Blvd, Fremont. Covid-19 restrictions are in place.
