Mercedes Eleanor Tolosa, age 87, passed away peacefully at Sunnyvale Post-Acute Center January 12, 2021.
She was born May 31, 1933 to Severo David and Mary Hanratty David in San Francisco. She grew up among the steep, hilly streets of the Diamond Heights neighborhood with her siblings Joseph, Margaret, Jeanie, and Trinidad.
In 1972, she moved to San Jose with her family, where she resided the rest of her life and created a loving home that she opened to all.
She was a wonderfully devoted mother to her four children Donna, Ronald, Cherissa and Roderick, beloved Grams to six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, and life companion to Robert.
Merci was a busy mother raising children while working as a proof-center manager for Crocker Bank/Wells Fargo, where she spent 30 years before finishing her career.
In her retirement, she was active with a part-time role as a receptionist for dental practices and volunteering at her grandchildren's schools.
Merci was an active person who loved gardening, gallivanting, sports, the arts, travel, and attending and hosting social events with her friends and family. In her lifetime, she visited several cities and States, travelled abroad to Ireland and Israel, and made many trips to Hawaii.
She led by example. She was hard working and energetic. On-the-go Merci could run circles around her children and grandchildren, even in her 80s. She brought good humor to every situation and went through life with a sense of adventure. She made friends wherever she went.
Merci was a strong, determined, resilient and fiercely independent woman. We will miss her every day.
