Van Khanh Truong

October 15, 1940 ~ January 17, 2021 (age 80)

With a heavy heart, we regret to inform our family and friends that our husband/father/grandfather Van Khanh Truong, born October 15, 1940 in Vietnam, has peacefully passed away On January 17th 2021 in San Jose CA USA at the age of 80.

In his 20s, Van enlisted in the Air Force of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam during the Vietnam War.  Van acquired the rank of Captain, and was piloting the UH-1 Huey helicopter into many dangerous missions.  During the war, Van was introduced to Tran Thi My, whom he quickly married and started a family. Van and My had four children: Chinh Truong, Thao Truong, Diem Truong, and Quan Truong.  His immediate family has now expanded to include daughter in-law Diep Nguyen, and grandchildren: Thien Truong, Thu Truong, Tran Thai, Caitlyn Loi, and Justin Loi.

Van gave his family an opportunity for a better life when they moved to California in 1994.  He was the pillar of our family, taking care of everything from big to small ensuring the comfort of everyone.  Van took on jobs where he worked long hours and harsh working conditions to provide for his family without any complaints.  He was always sharing his wisdom, values, and experiences to help us make better life decisions.

Since 1999, when My fell ill with kidney disease, Van has shown his dedication as a loving husband by delicately caring for her this past 21 years.  He would be there for her night and day, not missing a beat.  Van was so devoted to her wellbeing that he often neglects his own.  Due to his altruistic and generous personality, Van was loved by everyone who had the opportunity to know him.  He enjoys gatherings of families and friends where he would share his amazing war stories over delicious Vietnamese dishes and some drinks.  These gatherings will no longer be the same without him.

My father will forever live in our hearts and we will never forget his teachings and kindness.  Until we meet again.
