Obituary for Vincent L. Fernelius, Sr.

1933-2022

Vincent Fernelius was born September 1933 in Uintah, Utah. He passed away peacefully on March 27, 2022.  He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Fernelius of Union City, CA as well as one Son (Vincent Jr.) and one daughter (Suzette and husband Keith Swanson) both of Fremont, and son-in-law John Aufdermauer of Castro Valley, CA. One daughter (Jewell Aufdermauer) preceded him in death.  Vince leaves behind 5 grandchildren (Monika, Brandon, and Amanda Aufdermauer, Michelle Fernelius, and Katie Swanson) and 2 great-grandchildren (Charlotte and Benjamin).

Vince and Lou Ann met in Ogden, Utah, and were married in 1953.  He served in the Army for 2 years. They raised 3 children together and moved to California in 1970 where they settled in Union City.  He worked for Fremont Unified School District as a Special Education teacher, ROP teacher, Administrator, high school football and softball coach, and basketball referee. He retired from FUSD in 1991. Vince always loved working with his students and athletes and took great pride in seeing them succeed.

Vince and Lou Ann spent many years in retirement traveling with a variety of groups and going on several cruises.  Vince was also active in SIRS and Elks club. He also enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and camping.  He made furniture as a hobby. He was also fond of spending time with his family.

His pleasant personality, smile, and love for life will be missed by all those who knew him.  Services are pending.
