Carolyn Jean “CJ” Priest, 78, tennis lover, bridge demon, ski racer, merrymaker, natty dresser, and accomplished traveler died Saturday, August 28, 2021.
CJ was born on December 22, 1942 in Portland, Oregon to the late William George Priest and Mae Belle (Veum) Priest. Growing up in Washington State, her brother Bill was a magician and CJ was his faithful assistant through their formative years. After graduating from Lewis and Clark High School, she continued her education at Washington State University where she majored in Sociology and was an enthusiastic member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority.
CJ enjoyed many successful careers, first as a Social Worker for California Health and Human Services in Los Angeles County, then subsequently a real estate agent, and finally as a Juvenile Probation Officer in Alameda County.
CJ liked to joke around. She loved dressing up in costumes and socializing and kept two large bins of Halloween costumes in her garage! Extremely bright and articulate, she would fiercely defend her opinion to the bitter end. She was honest to a fault and advocated for the less fortunate. She loved holidays, skiing, and playing tennis, and cherished her adventures with friends from the Red Hat Society.
Most of all, she really loved her family. Cleverly disguised as the Easter bunny, Mrs. Claus, or a Sheriff, Cowboy, or Pirate, she regaled in amusing her grandchildren, no matter their ages. She was generous, gregarious, and quick to laugh.
She is survived by her brother Bill Priest, her three children, Heidi Larson, Kirsten (Larson) Corpuz and husband Rico, and Jennifer (Parnell) Dosenbach and husband Mike, her grandchildren, Alex and Peter, Jeriko and Sammy, and Ruby, Anna, and Kenny.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors and medical staff at Kaiser Permanente for their wonderful support and exemplary care.
