Anju Basundhra, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and cherished teacher, passed away peacefully in San Jose, California, on September 13, 2025. Born on March 7, 1956, in Delhi, India, she graced the world with her warm presence for 69 beautiful years. Anju’s life was a radiant tapestry woven with love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit that inspired all who knew her. Anju was the daughter of a devoted family, surrounded by loving siblings and a nurturing environment. She grew up in Kashmir, where her father, Shantiswarup Puri, served as a forest officer, instilling in her a profound respect for nature and the world around her. Her mother, Manmohini Puri, sparked her love and talent for cooking and instilled in her the warmth and kindness she would later reflect on to others around her. Alongside her siblings Ashok, Anil and Anuja, she shared countless adventures, creating memories that would last a lifetime. On June 16, 1975, Anju married the love of her life, Amrit Basundhra, in a ceremony that marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership. Their love story spanned fifty wonderful years, characterized by a deep bond that resonated through their shared experiences, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they built a family that radiated warmth and love, welcoming their daughter Amrita and son Saurabh into the world. She was overjoyed as her family grew and she embraced her son-in-law Yogesh (husband of Amrita) and daughter-in-law Aleena (wife of Saurabh) like her own children. Her love only grew further as she was blessed with beautiful grandchildren, Ariv and Siyona (son and daughter of Amrita and Yogesh), whom she adored deeply. Anju was a nurturing mother and grandmother, and she cherished every moment spent with her family, guiding them with patience and kindness as they navigated life’s journeys. Education was a cornerstone of Anju's life, and she devoted over 40 years to teaching, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her students. As a Bachelor of Education graduate, she approached her profession with unparalleled dedication and passion. Her nurturing, kind, and warm personality made her a beloved figure among her students and colleagues alike. Anju’s classroom was not just a place for learning; it was a sanctuary where her students felt valued and understood. Anju’s spirit was enriched by her love for cooking and hosting gatherings for friends and family. The joy she found in preparing meals and sharing them with loved ones was a reflection of her generous heart. She was a devout Hindu, deeply engaged in her faith, and found immense joy in participating in vibrant traditions and colorful festivals that brought her family and community together. Anju's love for flowers mirrored her personality; she adored roses, tulips, and daffodils, which seemed to embody the beauty she shared with those around her. Her home was always filled with laughter, and she was known for her captivating stories about her childhood and her adventurous life growing up amidst the picturesque landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir. Her anecdotes were full of humor and warmth, making her the center of conversations and gatherings. Anju is preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Ashok and Anil, who were a significant part of her life. She is survived by her devoted husband Amrit, her loving daughter Amrita, her cherished son Saurabh, her adorable grandchildren Ariv and Siyona, and her dear sister Anuja. Together, they will carry forward her legacy of kindness, love, and compassion.
