Nancy Carol Gerling

Nancy Carol (Nadowski) Gerling 3/10/40-11/6/24 On March 10, 1940, Nancy Carol (Nadowski) Gerling was the first of eight children born in Beloit, Wisconsin, to Frances and Carl Nadowski. She went to Brother Dutton Grade School and then Beloit Catholic High School. After graduation, she worked at a real estate and insurance agency before packing up her Rambler American and moving to California, where she met Jack Gerling. They dated and then married on April 2, 1966. On March 25, 1968, her daughter, Janice, was born. Nancy obtained her AA Degree from San Jose City College. She worked at JCPenney in the Bedding Department and later in the Advertising Department. She transitioned to secretarial work at IBM and also worked for the Elks Lodge. On May 11, 2001, her only grandson, Jacob Lawton, was born. She was a doting grandma, a.k.a. "Marme," and those two were inseparable. Nancy later followed her daughter to the County, working in ESA Insurance, the Recorder's Office, and then for her favorite boss in the Planning Department from which she retired in 2004. Sadly, her loving husband, Jack, passed away in February 2006. Nancy was an avid reader and the ultimate chocoholic! She filled her time baking chocolate cakes, reading, crafting, making cards, and taking care of her grandson, Jacob. She enjoyed taking him and his friends to places like the Children's Discovery Museum, the Tech Museum, Nickel City, out to pick strawberries, and sometimes after school they would go for hamburgers and chocolate malts and hang out or swing by a candy store in Willow Glen for the all-important chocolate fix. Throughout their marriage, Jack and Nancy enjoyed traveling and had adventures in Canada, British Columbia, Ireland, England, Scotland, and Wales, with a special cruise to Alaska with friends. In 2019, she and her daughter Janice traveled to Italy, Spain, and The Netherlands. Nancy was a huge fan of Elvis, so in 2022, her last trip was to Graceland with Janice and Jacob. Nancy had a strong faith in God, and she served in the church. She was an elegant woman, loved her gold and sparkle and butterflies too! She was very generous, loved to help others, and was a supportive mom and grandma. She passed away on November 6, 2024, in San Jose, California, and will be missed by her family and all who knew her and loved her.
