Dr. William Conrad Sweeting Jr.

Dr. William Conrad Sweeting Jr. Resident of Mill Valley passed on Jan 14, 2026 at the age of 83. He specialized in Urogynecology and practiced at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in San Francisco for 29 years. He was a Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Endocrinology at UCSF Medical School and was involved with both teaching and research of female pelvic floor disorders. He served on various committees of the American Urogynecologic Society and became its President in 2000. He was CEO of the June Allyson Foundation of the American Urogynecologic Society which provided grants to foster research in the sub-specialty of Urogynecology. This foundation became the seed which led to the establishment of the American Urogynecologic Society’s for research and pelvic floor disorders. He also served on the Board of the International Urogynecological Association. Other professional memberships included the International Incontinence Society, Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology, American College of OB/GYN, San Francisco Medical Society, John Hale Medical Society, and the Sinkler-Miller Medical Association. He was awarded the prestigious American Urogynecologic Society’s Jack Robertson M.D “lifetime achievement award” in recognition of his outstanding contributions in improving healthcare for women. Dr. Sweeting held a passion for the Performing Arts and especially Opera. He was on the Board of Directors of San Francisco Opera and a member of the Board of Directors of the distinguished Merola Opera Program, a young artists training program affiliated with San Francisco Opera. He also participated with the U.C. Berkeley Alvin Ailey Summer Camps for disadvantaged youth. He was married for 54 years to his devoted wife, Bessie and is sadly missed. He leaves to mourn; son, Conrad III (Lisa); daughter, Kirsten; granddaughter, Akaija; and brother; Phillip and a host of other relatives and friends. A Funeral service will be held on January 30th, 2026, at St. Peter’s Parish, 6013 Lawton Avenue at Broadway, Oakland, California 94618. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Urogynecologic Society Foundation, to any activity/program of your choice.
